Awakening Grief and Humility: December’s New Moon in Scorpio, in Jyeṣṭhā Nakshatra.

VEDIC ASTROLOGY GUIDANCE | December New Moon | Scorpio | JYEṢṬHĀ NAKSHATRA

‘Sorrows are our best educator. A man can see further through a tear than a telescope.’ — Bruce Lee

As the moon disappears from our sight on Amavasya, the new moon night, we are called to ‘see’ through our watery depths: to go underground, feel, and meet our grief in order to receive clarity and wisdom — our soul light.

MOON IN SCORPIO AND MERCURY RETROGRADE

On 12th December at 11:32 pm GMT, the Moon moves into Vṛṣabha rashi, Scorpio, arguably the most spiritually transformative sign. Expect passion, intensity, and a process of renewal.

Place the focus on healing and be careful with your responses and reactions, as this watery sign encourages change and upheaval, often through emotionally confronting means; its ruling planet, Mars, is the Warrior after all and is stable in his own sign.

There is inner strength and courage arriving amidst the chaos of outer world events. Where you place your attention and mind will matter if you wish to protect your energy and time.

With Mercury going retrograde in Sagittarius on the 13th, the next day, be mindful of speech and communication — assert yourself with compassionate authority, and re-check every written piece before sending it out to the world!

Mercury’s position and movement are important at this time, as he rules Jyeṣṭhā, the star space where the Moon will be transiting. He stations direct on 1st January 2024.

Venus, mūlatrikoṇa in Libra, brings an element of positivity, upliftment, and support in partnerships. When in the dark, turn to the creative process!

My 11 Day Writing Challenge may support deep emotional healing and transformation during this cycle.

JYEṢṬHĀ NAKSHATRA

The devata of this nakshatra is Indra, the Lord of the heavenly abode, the slayer of dragons, and God of thunder and lightning. (Expect some stormy skies!) He is in constant battle to protect his kingdom, being the one who possesses magic and power; resources that the asuras (demons) long to secure, therefore Jyeṣṭhā’s symbols are to do with protection, such as an amulet.

The enduring lesson of Jyeṣṭhā from many Puranic stories of Indra’s pride and fall is humility; look at the ‘enemies’ within, after identifying the one’s without: the jealousy, the anger, the pride, and more. Rather than lashing out aggressively as a default or acting in extreme behaviours to retain one’s position or power (that may be rightly earned through discipline and tapas) let humility be the antidote to the potential corruption of power.

To maintain dharma, embrace a humble stance and welcome the support of wise counsel.

Remember to take an eagle-eyed view of your difficult circumstances before withdrawing into the depths of your Scorpian’s cave, burying yourself in dark thoughts and emotions.

Jyeṣṭhā, meaning the ‘eldest,’ beckons you to go beyond the senses because, on the other side of the shadows, one can attain the clarifying wisdom that comes from the maturity of taking responsibility.

NEW MOON INTENTIONS

Embrace a moment of stillness; create some sacred space for introspection. Face your emotional depths, letting the currents of your inner waters flow freely. Invite a profound release and regeneration as you navigate this grief journey. May the stillness reveal the whispers of your soul and guide you towards a refreshed sense of being.

JOURNAL THIS:

What dragon have you to face and slay in this moon cycle? (What are the emotions you have yet to feel deeply and transform?)

Where do you require clarity? (What is not working?)

What is the goal and vision worth struggling for? Where can you take responsibility for the hardship that comes through attaining your desires?

In what ways can you nurture and care for yourself amidst life’s challenges? (How can you strengthen your emotional resilience?)

FLOWER ORACLE:

Hemlock

Toxicity… a theme of this New Moon cycle! Hemlock is a highly poisonous plant.

Despite its toxicity, the Hemlock flower paradoxically blooms with delicate beauty, inspiring us to consider the coexistence of darkness and light. It serves as a reminder of the alchemical transformation that Scorpio represents and the ego-death required for transcendence.

This oracle energy encourages us to explore the opportunities and potential for profound personal metamorphosis hidden within our dark places — our sorrows and grief.

What remains unseen? Where are you stuck? Shed old patterns, and find a greater, more meaningful vision.

Interestingly, Hemlock flowers, shaped like umbrellas, align with one of Jyeṣṭhā’s symbols — an umbrella! This synchronicity invites seekers to find refuge under the protective umbrella of wisdom, acknowledging that within the shelter of self-knowledge, one can navigate the storms of life and undergo transformative experiences — much like the Hemlock flower’s delicate beauty emerging from a potentially toxic core.
