Starting Over: July’s New Moon in Gemini Under the Blessings of Purnavasu | Vedic Astrology

July 2024 Dharmic Guidance by Payal

NEW MOON IN GEMINI | PUNARVASU NAKSHATRA | VEDIC ASTROLOGY

July’s New Moon in Gemini, Punarvasu nakshatra, encourages creative expression, reflection, and the courage to materialise your dreams with clarity and purpose. This inspiring Amāvasyā tithi arrives on the 5th of the month at 11:57 PM (BST).

Positive energies abound with the Sun and Moon conjunct with Venus, along with Jupiter and Mercury close by, signaling a fresh start broadly in matters of love, desire, relationships, education, spiritual study and practice, communication, and creative endeavors. Mercurian and Jupitarian energies are further heightened as the former rules Gemini and the latter rules the lunar mansion where the New Moon is happening: Punarvasu, known as the Star of Renewal.

PURNARVASU NAKSHATRA

This cosmic energy reflects the first light and calm after the storm of the previous nakshatra, Ārdrā. A fierce battle has been fought, and nature is now seeking equilibrium, replenishment, and rejuvenation. Mercury and Jupiter support the purification of the mind and spirit, while Venus enhances physical care and nourishment through material world activities.

Punarvasu offers a new beginning and an opportunity to clear the troubled past — a chance for a clean slate, particularly in the area of life where Gemini resides in your natal chart.

The deity of this portion of the sky is Aditi, the Mother of the Eight Vasu Devas, the manifestations of the elements that govern and nourish our reality. She is boundless, protective, nurturing, and life-supporting — a gentle, compassionate force. She embodies the goodness and abundance inherent in nature.

The symbol of this nakshatra is a quiver with arrows, teaching us the importance of having an aim towards a goal and maintaining a higher vision. One must shoot the arrows one after another; practice and effort bring positive results. The quiver symbolises the returning of the arrow safely back to its home and starting again — it reflects the courage to try again and the idea that one has access to endless resources. (Traditionally, the quiver fills back with arrows magically after use.) It reflects the energy of dawn, the first ray of sunlight that comes after darkness, and is thus named the Star of Renewal.

It is the lesson of not giving up: no experience is wasted, and everything you need to start over is already inside of you — embodied through life’s trials and errors. Who better to serve as an example of this heroic behaviour than Śrī Rama? Cherished as the wisest King, he utilises the higher aspects of the mind (Mercury) to serve the needs of his people, aligning and leading with dharma through spiritual study and right action (Jupiter), and devoting his heart (Venus) to Sita Ma. Śrī Rama’s birth star is none other than Purnarvasu!

This New Moon in Gemini offers a return of something lost, much like Śrī Rama, who had lost both his kingdom and Sita Ma, and later reclaimed them through courageous and creative means. Add to this Shani Dev (Saturn), currently in retrograde, who is also bringing the feeling of a return — a call to re-commit, review, and re-do.

Who, or what is returning in your life? What is this second chance? (It may well be a goal or ambition you’re ready to revisit). What lesson is it teaching you?

Before embracing new beginnings and taking new action, take care of the places left unattended, address the remnants of ‘destruction’ or disorganisation in your life to enhance powers of discernment and clarity of direction.

NEW MOON INTENTIONS

Clean up! It’s time to release overly critical and negative thoughts and embrace healthy optimism. Allow yourself to transcend self-imposed limitations and believe in the creative possibilities. Take time for introspection, self-care, and focus on the plan ahead with renewed energy.
